Florence E. Bates

Florence Elizabeth Bates, 88, of State Line, PA, passed away on Friday, January 3, 2025 at the Mennonite Fellowship Home. Born June 20, 1936 in Rice, VA, she was a daughter of the late Fordy and Esther Elizabeth Martin Bates.

Florence was employed for many years at the Waynesboro Hospital as a lab worker until her retirement in 1995. She was a member of the Paradise Mennonite Church in Hagerstown.

She is survived by five siblings, Nancy LaBlanc of LA, Shirley Mariotti of Hagerstown, Douglas Bates (Priscilla) of Chambersburg, Henry Bates (Madonna) of LA, and Betty Eby (Eldon) of Shirleysburg, PA; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her siblings, William Bates, Robert Bates, Ann Strite, Juanita Strite, and Ben Bates.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at the Reiff Mennonite Church, 17433 Reiff Church Rd, Hagerstown, MD 21740. Interment will follow the service in the adjoining church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 8:00 PM on Friday, January 10, 2025 at the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, PA 17225, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
