Evelyn P. Summers, age 90, a resident of Quincy Retirement Home, Quincy, PA. and formerly of Grindstone Hill Rd. Greencastle, PA. died at 1:09 P.M. Monday, November 14, 2011 in the nursing home.
Born August 20, 1921, in Mason Dixon (Antrim Twp.) PA., she was the daughter of the late Daniel Ray and Julia (Hicks) Burkett.
Her husband Allen Summers died on October 12, 1989. She was a member of the Pleasant Hill United Brethren Church of Greencastle where she was a member of the Willing Worker''s Sunday School Class. Evelyn was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting and doing crafts.
Surviving family are three sons Allen R. (wife Hilda M.) Summers, Knoxville, MD., Lester E. (wife Helen E.) Summers and Ronald L. (wife Janie) Summers, all of Greencastle, one daughter Anna E. (husband John L.) Burkett, Greencastle, two sisters, Olive Nisewonder, resident of Quincy Retirement Home, Jeanette McMahel, Hagerstown, MD., 10 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren, 9 step-grandchildren, 14 step-great-grandchildren and 2 step-great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother Grover Burkett and a great-grandson.
Funeral services will be held on Friday November 18 at 11:00 A.M. from the Pleasant Hill United Brethren Church 3664 Coseytown Rd. Greencastle with Chaplain Guy Baer and Pastor Doug Sandman officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6 - 8 P.M. at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S.
