Evelyn I. Bitner, age 84 of 12005 Koons Rd. Waynesboro, Pa. died at 1:50 P.M. Tuesday, March 30, 2010 in the Chambersburg Hospital. She had been in declining health the past several months and critically ill the last two weeks.
Born August 17, 1925 in Waterfall, Fulton County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late James and Emma (Reeder) Barnett.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Greencastle. She was a member of the National A.A.R.P. and enjoyed gardening and flowers.
She and her husband, Lewis K. Bitner were married February 27, 1946. He died on February 4, 2008.
Surviving family are one daughter Emma L. (Wife of William) Berger, Waynesboro, Pa., two sons, Robert L. (Husband of Jackie) Bitner, Winterville, N.C., Roger W. (Husband of Tina) Bitner, Greencastle, Pa., one sister Blanche Umbrell, Waynesboro, Pa., six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by brothers Vaughn Barnett, Melvin Barnett, Rawley Barnett and sisters Ada Clippinger, Velma Cowan, Gladys Daniels and Alice Wilson.
Funeral services will be held on Friday April 2 at 10:00 A.M. from the Evangelical Lutheran Church 130 N. Washington St. Greencastle with Revs. Martin Horn and Joseph Baer officiating. Burial will be in the Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg. The family will receive friends today from 6 - 8 P.M. at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle and at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday. Memorial contributions may be given in her memory to the Memorial Fund of Evangelical Lutheran Church 130 N.
