Evelyn E. “Ebbie” Baumgardner, age 99, formerly of Greencastle, PA passed away at 8:35 PM Friday, April 18, 2014 in Providence Place of Chambersburg.
She was married for 64 years to the late Raymond W. “Baumy” Baumgardner who died on November 3, 1996.
Born May 30, 1914 in Waynesboro, PA she was the daughter of the late Edward M. and Winifred (Heisler) Benchoff. She was preceded in death by five sisters and five brothers. She attended Waynesboro schools and graduated from Eastern High School in Baltimore, MD.

Evelyn was a member of the Grace United Church of Christ in Greencastle and served as deacon and elder. She taught Sunday school in the kindergarten class for many years and was a member of the church choir for 50 years. She was a member and past president of the Greencastle-Antrim Senior Women’s Club, a member of the Greencastle-Antrim Loyal Daughters and was active in the Red Cross Bloodmobile, Meals on Wheels and was a former member of the South Chapter of the AARP of Waynesboro. Evelyn retired as a teacher’s aide in the Greencastle-Antrim School District.

She was an avid golfer, tennis and bridge player and loved to ski. She and her husband Ray were the founder and builders of the Richmond Hill Ski Area in Path Valley which operated for nearly 25 years.

Surviving family are two sons R. Edward Baumgardner and wife Trudy of New Cumberland, PA, Jeffrey L. Baumgardner and wife Barbara Baumgardner of Sudbury, MA, two grandchildren Tracy Baumgardner and Sarah Baumgardner and numerous nieces and nephews. A son William Gordon Baumgardner died in 1938.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday April 23 at 1:00 PM from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with Chaplain John Ile officiating. Burial will be in the Green Hill Cemetery Waynesboro. There will be no public viewing but the family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the service on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Grace United Church of Christ P.O. Box 448 Greencastle, PA 17225.
