Eva C. “Neil” Davis

Eva Cornelia “Neil” (Breeden) Witmer Davis, age 87 a resident of the Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Chambersburg and formerly of Greencastle died at 1:40 PM Monday, May 12, 2014 in the nursing center. She went by the name “Neil”.

Born May 14, 1926 near Bakersville, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Letha (Middlekauff) Breeden Shatzer and the step-daughter of the late Richard Shatzer.

She married her first husband, Omar D. Witmer in May 1944. They were involved in farming in the Greencastle area for many years. Later, she was employed as a cook at the Sunnyway Diner and the Family Restaurant both of Greencastle and the former Keystone Restaurant in Waynesboro. Mr. Witmer died in March 1976.

She married her second husband John G. “Red” Davis in August 1987. Mr. Davis died in October 2010.

Surviving family are two sons, Robert Witmer and wife Terry Roxanne of Greencastle, Kenneth Witmer of State Line, one step-son John G. “Skip” Davis and one step-daughter Wilma Cyfers and husband John all of Falling Waters, WV, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren, cousins, nephews, nieces and a step-sister Betty Shatzer Stouffer of Chambersburg.

In addition to her husbands, Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by a son Omar D. Witmer Jr. in September 1967, a step-son Delmar Davis, two sisters Jane Nelson and Irene Greenfield, two brothers Raymond and Earl “Johnny” Breeden and a step-brother Jack Shatzer.

Mrs. Davis was the last of her immediate family and was a Gold Star Mother.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 16 at 11:00 AM from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with Rev. William DeHass officiating. Burial will be in the Shanks Church of the Brethren Cemetery near Greencastle. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6 – 8 PM.
