Ethel L. Barnes, age 85 a resident of ManorCare Health Services of Chambersburg and formerly of the Luther Ridge Retirement Village and Upton, Pa. died at 9:00 A.M. Monday October 19, 2009 in the nursing home.
Born August 1, 1924 in Franklin County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late David and Minnie (Bryan) McLucas.
She was a homemaker and also worked as practical nurse doing private duty nursing.
Ethel was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church at Luther Ridge of Scotland, Pa. and previously was an active member of the St. Stephen''s Lutheran Church of Upton.
She was a 21 year volunteer with the former CONTAC organization of Chambersburg, volunteer with Lutheran Social Services and Hospice, served as an officer with the Lutheran Church Women and volunteered with the Meals On Wheels program. Ethel also served on the Franklin County Election Board, served on the Franklin County Fair Board and was a member of the Franklin County Farm Womens Group. She was a graduate of Greencastle High School. She and her husband, Arthur E. Barnes were married April 17, 1943. He died on January 2, 1997.
Surviving family are three sons Roger A. Barnes and wife Jeanne, Silver Spring, Md., Gary E. Barnes and wife Shirley, Chambersburg, Marlin L. Barnes and wife Jane Peatling, Chambersburg, sister Nancy Moats, Welsh Run, Pa., brother David Lee McLucas, Mercersburg, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother Russell L. "Dude" McLucas in 2003.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday October 24 at 1:00 P.M. from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with Rev. Beth R. Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6 - 8 P.M. at the funeral home.
