Estella C. Talhelm, age 101 a resident of Penn Hall Nursing Center Chambersburg and formerly of 11796 Stull Rd. Greencastle and Providence Place died at 3:15 A.M. Monday, June 14, 2010 in the nursing center.
Born October 18, 1908 in Antrim Twp. Franklin County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late James M. and Belle (Bartle) Clary.
She was a retired school teacher having taught 37 1/2 years in Antrim Twp. schools. She was a 1926 graduate of Greencastle High School and 1929 graduate of Shippensburg Normal School. Estella was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Greencastle where she was a member of the Women''s Bible Class.
She was also a member of the National Retired Teachers Association, the Pennsylvania and Franklin County Retired Teachers Associations and the Kauffman Ruritan Club. Estella also was a member of the Greencastle Sportsman Club Auxiliary, the Zullinger Homemakers and volunteered at the Waynesboro Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed her grandchildren, crocheting, knitting and making crafts.
She and her husband, Harold E. "Tallie" Talhelm were married June 1, 1929 in the parsonage of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. He died on February 19, 2001.
Surviving family are one daughter Phyllis Knepper Shatzer and husband Barry, Greencastle, Pa., two granddaughters, Pam Daley and husband Edward, Waynesboro, Pa., Kim Bohn and husband Randall, Greencastle, Pa., three great-grandchildren Abigail Daley, Megan Daley and Travis Bohn. She was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Friday morning June 18 at 10:00 A.M. from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with Rev. Martin H. Horn and Rev. Edward Daley officiating. Burial will be in the Browns Mill Cemetery Kauffman. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6 - 8 P.M. Memorial contributions may be given in her memory to the Memorial Fund of the Evangelical Lutheran Church 130 N. Washington St. Greencastle, Pa. 17225.
