Elva G. Keener

Elva Grace (Meyers) Keener, age 90 of 14023 Grant Shook Rd. Greencastle, Pa. died unexpectedly at 3:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 12, 2009 in her home.

Born April 23, 1919 in Milnor, Franklin County, Pa. , she was the daughter of the late Harry S. and Bertha P. (Cline) Meyers.
She was a homemaker and in her earlier years she had worked at the former Stanley Co. of Chambersburg.
Elva was a member of the Salem Ridge Mennonite Church of Greencastle where she helped with the sewing circle activities. She also volunteered at World Treasures in Hagerstown. Elva enjoyed reading, sewing, making quilts and teddy bears.

She and her husband, Leavitt M. Keener were married October 29, 1939 in Huyett, Md.

Surviving in addition to her husband of nearly 70 years are two sons Leavitt M. "Sonny" (Husband of Bette) Keener, Lancaster, Pa., Dewayne M. (Husband of Mary) Keener, Falling Waters, W.Va., daughter, Regina M. (Wife of Milton) Keener-Lewis, Richmond, Va., three brothers, John D. Meyers, Greencastle, Mark S. Meyers, Hagerstown, Md., Isaac W. Meyers, Madwaska, Maine, eight grandchildren, four great-granddaughters, three step grandchildren and two step-great grandsons.

She was preceded in death by: one daughter Joyce Keener, three sisters, Pearl K. Meyers, Martha Martin, Ethel Hawbaker and three brothers Harry Omar Meyers, Paul Meyers and Irvin Meyers.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday August 15 at 10:30 A.M. from the Cedar Grove Mennonite Church 13343 Williamsport Pike Greencastle, Pa. with Pastors Roger Martin and Gary Zook officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S.
