Mrs. Elsie M. Secrest, 71, of Mercersburg, Pennsylvania, died early Thursday morning, August 16, at her residence. She was the wife of Mr. Richard F. Secrest, her husband of 50 years.

Born August 31, 1940, in Frederick County, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Charles E. and Anna Mary Wilhide Wastler.

She was a 1961 graduate of Washington County Hospital School of Nursing; and retired from the Washington County Hospital in 2003. Later she returned for Volunteer service.

Mrs. Secrest was a member of St. Stephen''s Lutheran Church, Upton.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends; and was and avid gardener and reader.

Surviving besides her husband are her children, Tracey DePasquale and husband Eugene of York, and Richard T. Secrest and wife Kelly of Mercersburg; as well as her grandchildren Ben and Sarah DePasquale, and Aiden Secrest.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Charles J. Wastler.

The family will receive friends at the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 South Carlisle Street, Greencastle, Pennsylvania, on Sunday, August 19, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be on Monday, August 20, 11:00 AM, from her church, St. Stephen''s Lutheran Church, 8835 Lemar Road, Greencastle (Upton). Her pastor, Rev. Alan R. Wilson, will officiate. Interment will follow in Welsh Run Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Mercersburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lutheran Home Care and Hospice, Inc., 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, Pennsylvania 17202; or St. Jude Children''s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
