Elizabeth H. Martin

Elizabeth (Horst) Martin, age 89, a resident of Menno Haven in Chambersburg, PA and formerly of Greencastle, PA, went to her Heavenly Home on Wednesday morning June 27, 2018 at her apartment at Menno Haven. The date of June 27 was also the wedding anniversary of Elizabeth and her late husband Arthur.

Born August 31, 1928 in Maugansville, MD, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Nannie B. (Horst) Horst.

Elizabeth was a former member of the Salem Ridge Church near Greencastle. She was a farm girl and housewife. Her jobs included work at the B& L Store in Maugansville and she retired from the Kiddy Campus Daycare of Hagerstown. Elizabeth volunteered at World Treasurers in Hagerstown and she received her GED Diploma in 1981.

Elizabeth’s hobbies and interests included quilting, scrapbooking and solving puzzles.

Surviving family include  two sons, Don Martin and wife Jo-An of Hagerstown, Dean Martin and wife Raedella of McConnellsburg, PA, daughter-in-law Wilma Martin of Greencastle, five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a brother Edgar Horst and his wife Cora of Hagerstown.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Arthur R. Martin in 2015, a son Michael A. Martin in 2006, two brothers, Daniel Horst, Aden Horst and a sister Ida Horst.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday July 1 at 3:00 PM at the Salem Ridge Church, 441 Pensinger Rd. Greencastle with Pastors Brian Emery and Joe Martin officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery. There will be a viewing at the church on Sunday from 2:00 – 3:00 PM.   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in her memory to the Mennonite Disaster Services 583 Airport Rd.
