Eldon S. Mowen, age 89 a resident of the Green Ridge Village in Newville, Pa. and formerly of 23 South Carl Ave. Greencastle, Pa. died at 1:05 P.M. Wednesday December 19, 2007 in the nursing home.
Born August 2, 1918 in Antrim Twp. Franklin Co. Pa., he was the son of the late Harry Clinton and Orpha Viola (Johnston) Mowen.
He was employed as works supervisor for the Borough of Greencastle and last worked as a security guard for Grove Manufacturing of Shady Grove. In his earlier years he was a farmer and a carpenter.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving with the 5th Army and later served with the 7th Army in the invasion of southern France.
Mr. Mowen was a member of the Frank L. Carbaugh American Legion Post #373 of Greencastle. He enjoyed reading, gardening and being with his family.
He and his wife, Arlene E. (Hoover) Mowen were married on July 12, 1952. She died on July 1, 1974.

Five daughters, Sharon L. Stoner, Sybil D. Kerlin, Brenda G. Zeis and Tonya Mowen, all of Greencastle, Pa. and Judy Harrison, Carlisle, Pa.
One Son, Ronald J.E. Mowen, Cumming, Georgia
Two Brothers, L. Aubrey Mowen, resident of Quincy Retirement Home, Quincy, Pa. and Everett Mowen of Hagerstown, Md.

He was preceded in death by: brothers, Carl Mowen, Marvin Mowen, Harold Mowen, Harry Mowen, George Mowen, Rollo Mowen, Galen Mowen, Emory Mowen, Gerald Mowen and sisters Evelyn Overcash, Virginia Zeigler, Betty Brechbiel and Doris Jean Mowen.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday December 22 at 11:00 A.M. from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle, Pa. with Pastor Glen A. Miller officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the Chambersburg V.F.W. Post #1599 Honor Guard will be in the Shanks Church Of The Brethren Cemetery Greencastle, Pa. The family will receive friends this evening from 6 - 8 P.M. at the funeral home.
