Mr. Edward Nelson Stoner, 73, of Greencastle, died Wednesday evening, July 24, 2013, at Falling Springs Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Chambersburg. He was the husband of Mrs. Lois Joan Poper Stoner, his wife of 53 � years.

Born November 6, 1939, in Ringold, Maryland, he was a son of the late Merle Nelson and Ethel Mae Avey Stoner. He attended St. Thomas High School.

Edward, fondly known to many as "Ed" or "Slim, hauled milk just out of high school. Later, he worked for 17 years and retired from Grove Manufacturing. Lastly he drove trucks for area trucking firms, and worked for Sunnyway Foods.

He was a member of American Legion, Harry Lackhove Post 517, Mercersburg; and he enjoyed gardening.

In addition to his wife, Ed is survived by five children, Keith N. Stoner and wife Linda of Mercersburg, Gregory L. Stoner and wife Debra of Goldsboro, North Carolina, Dennis E. Stoner and wife Lisa of Chambersburg, Melinda J. Stoner and husband Brian Heavner of Mercersburg, and Theresa C. Freeman and husband Michael of Cary, North Carolina; 11 grandchildren Brian, Kyle, Brad, Eric, Amanda, Austin, Daniel, Jared, Courtney, Hayley and Kaylyn; as well as 3 great grandchildren; and several cousins.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Ronald L. Stoner.

The Harold M. Zimmerman & Son Funeral Home, Greencastle, is handling the arrangements. There will not be visiting at the funeral home. The family will however receive friends at Ebenezer (Guitners) United Brethren Church, 7000 Guitners Road, Greencastle, on Monday, July 29, from 10:00 until 11:00 AM. The service will being at the church on Monday at 11:00 AM. The Rev. David L. Grove will officiate. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.
