Edward J. Slabik, age 82 of 106 West Walter Ave., Greencastle, PA. died Tuesday, March 20th, 2007 at 6:00 A.M. in ManorCare Health Services, Chambersburg where he was a resident for the past three weeks.
Born November 6, 1924, in Philadelphia, PA. he was the son of the late Frank and Anna (Mroz) Slabik.
He and his wife, Merna S. (Storer) Slabik were married April 18, 1947, in Arlington, VA.
Mr. Slabik was employed by the Federal Government in the Department of the Army as Chief of Communications. He was a 1942 graduate of the Simon Gratz High School in Philadelphia, PA.
Mr. Slabik was a member of the St. Mark The Evangelist Catholic Church of Greencastle.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in Pacific Theatre. He was a member of the Harry D. Zeigler Post #6319 of Greencastle and the American Legion Post 49 of Osborne, Kansas.

Daughter, Mary Anne Haffner of Waynesboro, PA.
Two Sons, Edward Michael Slabik of Timonium, MD and James Slabik of Hedgesville, WV.
Sister, Emily Jaworowski of Philadelphia, PA.
Grandson, Andrew Merrbaugh, U.S. Marine Corp.

He is preceded in death by a brother Stanley Slabik.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 23rd at 10:00 A.M. from the St. Mark The Evangelist Catholic Church, 385 S. Ridge Ave. Greencastle, PA. with Rev. Joseph L. Stahura officiating. Burial with military honors will be on Monday at 11:30 A.M. in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6-8 P.M. at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle where a wake service will be held at 7:00 P.M. and the Greencastle V.F.W. Post #6319 will hold a memorial service at 7:30 P.M. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the Friends of St. Andrew Catholic School, 213 E. Main St., Waynesboro, PA. 17268.
