Edna Mae (Kinch) Hammond, age 70, of Greencastle, PA passed away Thursday afternoon October 17, 2019 during transport from Hershey Penn State Hospital to her home.
She was born April 13, 1949 at home in Birmingham, PA, she was the daughter of the late Paul Kinch and Jennie L. Bateman. She married her husband L. Merritt Hammond on March 4, 1998.
Edna worked in the medical, sales and banking fields during her career. She was an active member of Lifehouse Church and helped to launch the Chambersburg campus. She also volunteered as a counselor at Pregnancy Ministries, Inc. at the Greencastle location. She was part of Connections, a women’s group that met in Waynesboro, PA and was a part of several Life Groups (bible study groups) within her church. Edna and her husband also served on a mission’s trip to Belize.
Edna and her husband loved to travel to Mexico, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, etc. They also loved camping and had a permanent site at Saunderosa Campground, where they enjoyed time with family and friends. She was a very giving, caring, special person to everyone that was fortunate to cross paths with her in her life.
Edna loved her husband, her family and their poodles, Teddy and Sampson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her step-father Richard E. Bateman, Sr. and her brother, Donald Kinch.
Edna is survived by her husband Merritt, a sister, Elaine L. (Kinch) Keller, and husband, George E. Keller of Greencastle, a brother, Richard E. Bateman of Greencastle, a daughter, Tonya (Miller) Martin of Greencastle, sons, Richard “Dennis” Miller Jr. and his wife Amy (Hammond) Miller of Orrstown, PA, Christopher P. Miller of Chambersburg, Tyler L. Swope of Greencastle; one grandson, Corbin D. Miller and one granddaughter, Lauren R. Miller, both of Orrstown, PA; nieces and nephews.
The family will be having a Celebration of Life Service for Edna on Sunday, November 10, 2019 at 2:00 PM at the Shippensburg Church of the Brethren 253 E. Garfield St. Shippensburg, PA with Pastors Brian Markle and Justin Simpson officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that you send donations in her memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or online at stjude.org, to help children with ATRT brain cancer.
