Edith M. (Meyer) Lesher

Edith M. (Meyer) Lesher, age 87 a resident of Providence Place Chambersburg, PA and formerly of North Allison Street Greencastle, PA died early Thursday morning December 12, 2013 in Providence Place following an extended stay there. Born July 23, 1926 in Mercersburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Lizzie (Wenger) Meyer. Edith was raised in her younger years by the late Aaron and Clara Meyers of Greencastle. Her husband Robert A. Lesher died on May 24, 1954. She worked as a cook at Mrs. Gibbles’s Restaurant having retired in 1988. Edith was a member of the Five Forks Brethren In Christ Church of Waynesboro where she had helped with the former Pioneer Girls. She loved volunteering at her church and with The Lunch Place in Waynesboro. Edith also enjoyed her flowers and gardening and was a 1945 graduate of Greencastle High School. Surviving family are four daughters, Elizabeth Martin and husband David, Faye Musser and husband Kenneth, all of Greencastle, Kaye Stayman and husband Nelson of Chambersburg, Roberta (Bobbi) Martin and husband Larry of Williamsport, MD, eight grandchildren, twenty-two- great- grandchildren and one brother Dr. George “Ed” Meyer of Bremen, Indiana. In addition to her parents and husband, Edith was preceded in death by one granddaughter Angela Martin, four sisters, one brother and one foster brother. A celebration of Edith’s life will be held on Monday December 16 at 10:30 AM from the Five Forks Brethren In Christ Church Chapel 9244 Five Forks Rd. Waynesboro with Pastors Bill Shank and Wilbur Biesecker officiating. There will be no public viewing but the family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service on Monday. Burial will be in the Montgomery Church Cemetery near Mercersburg at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in her memory to the Five Forks Brethren In Christ Church Benevolent Fund 9244 Five Forks Rd. Waynesboro, PA 17268.
