Rev. Dwayne E. Potteiger, age 63, of Wakarusa, IN, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 5, 2024, at his daughter’s home in Chambersburg, PA. Born in Harrisburg, PA on November 21, 1961, he was the son of Donald E. and Dorothy Witter Potteiger.
From the ages of 9-15, he lived in Rhodesia, Africa where his parents were missionaries. He graduated from God’s Bible School and College in Cincinnati, OH, in 1985, where God put a specific call on his life to preach the gospel. In 1984, he was married to Rhonda Kindy from MI. He later (1992) went on to earn his Master’s degree from Azusa Pacific University. He pastored Dallas Center Brethren In Christ Church from 1985-1989. Rev. John Maxwell hired him to be on his staff at Skyline Wesleyan Church in Lemon Grove, CA. 1989-1994. He was diagnosed with brain cancer and given 50 weeks to live. In 1994, he moved his family to Denver, CO where he was an evangelist for Kingdom Building Ministries. After 2 more brain surgeries, he moved his family to Chambersburg, PA where he served as senior pastor of Antrim Brethren In Christ Church from 2000-2008. In 2009, he moved to Mishawaka, IN and became senior pastor at Gospel Center Missionary Church until 2013. His life’s purpose was to love God, love others and to advance the Gospel of Jesus Christ. His health never stopped him from sharing salvation through Christ. He attended Nappanee Missionary Church, where he continued to fulfill that purpose. He has left an incredible legacy on so many not only when he had good health but as he suffered through 5 brain surgeries, a stroke and in his last days a brain hemorrhage.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Rhonda Kindy Potteiger, whom he married on June 16, 1984; two loving daughters, Rachel M. Henry (husband Simon) of Chambersburg, PA and Ericka N. Pattengale (husband Josh) of Wakarusa, IN; 10 cherished grandchildren, Christian, Selah, Jadah, Adriah, Mason, and Moriah Henry and Malachi, Titus, Ezekiel, and Ezra Pattengale; and two brothers, Dean Potteiger of Elverson, PA and Darrell Potteiger (wife Lisa) of Orrstown, PA.
