Douglas Scott Ryan, 59, of Greencastle, passed away peacefully in the hands of his beloved wife on October 4, 2023. Born February 12, 1964 in Hagerstown, MD, he was the only son of Douglas and Ruby (Weber) Ryan.
Scott married Doneta (Wingert) Ryan on December 6, 1986. He was a wonderful husband for 36 years. He is survived by his wife and two children; daughter Courtney Florentine (husband Kyle) of Greencastle, and son Grant Ryan (wife Lakin) of Chambersburg; and three precious granddaughters, Ava Florentine, Oaklyn Ryan and Harper Ryan, who were their Poppy’s pride and joy. He is also survived by a great aunt, Eva Murray; and numerous cousins.
Scott graduated from Heritage Academy in 1982 and later received his Bachelor’s degree from Frostburg State University. He worked several jobs in Maryland in banking, including 9 years at Direct Mail Processors, and most recently was VP of Operations at Merkle Response for 12 ½ years before retiring in 2020.
Scott was a talented musician, playing bass guitar from 1983-1995 for the Wingert Family Singers. He was a member at Antrim Brethren in Christ Church where he was a musician in the worship team. Scott wore several titles including husband, father, and friend, but Poppy is where his light truly shined. He adored his granddaughters and they adored him. No words can fully encapsulate Scott, but he was strong, compassionate, genuine, and led others by example. Scott cared foremost about his family’s spiritual wellbeing. He enjoyed family trips to the Smoky Mountains where he could hike, kayak, and take in God’s magnificent scenery.
