Dorothy Lorraine Robinson Beckham was born the fifteenth of June 1931, at the home of her parents, Carl and Ora College Robinson in Greencastle, Franklin County, Pennsylvania. She was the fourth of eight children in the Robinson family.
The family are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and Dorothy was baptized in April of 1940.
She attended Greencastle Antrim Elementary Schools and graduated from Greencastle High School in 1949.
During the early 1970’s, she attended Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah campus and graduated with a degree in fabrics and textiles.
She was employed in a few places in the Washington, D.C. area before moving to Southern California where she worked for many years as a paralegal.
While in California, she married Derrell Beckham on November 11, 1969. The relationship ended in divorce and later, after Dorothy retired, she moved back East. She stayed in Maryland a while, then moved to Chambersburg, Pennsylvania and lived there for several years.
Some of the siblings had been living in the west for quite a while, so to be nearer to family members, she moved to Utah in March of 2008 and stayed. She made her home at the Thornberry Apartments in Pleasant Grove and later the Covington Assisted Living in Orem.
After about a year, she left Covington and went to live at the home of a niece, Julie McNamara, in Lehi.
During her lifetime, Dorothy filled responsible positions in the Church including a proselyting mission in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Mission between October 1978 and April 1980.
In her spare time, Dorothy liked playing Scrabble with family and friends. She almost always came out ahead of everybody. She also loved doing puzzles. During her last days, she loved it when Julie would take the time to sit and do a puzzle with her. Another of life’s pleasures she favored was eating ice cream. Hopefully, that will be available in the next life along with other pleasures of mortal life.
Dorothy Beckham passed away at the McNamara’s home October 12, 2024. She lived a righteous life.
