Doris L. “Polly” Eckstine, age 92 of Greencastle, PA died at 11:24 AM Wednesday, September 25, 2013 in the Quincy Retirement Home where she had been a resident for a month. She had been in declining health the past month.

Born March 16, 1921 in Hagerstown, MD, she was the daughter of the late Scott and Lillian (Whetstone) Pittenger.

She and her husband Charles H. Eckstine were married November 8, 1946. He died on December 2, 1991.

Polly was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Greencastle. She was also a member of the Greencastle-Antrim Loyal Daughters. She enjoyed her family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, her dog and going out to eat with friends.

Surviving family are one daughter Penny L. Marks and husband Dick of Waynesboro, PA, two sons Jeffrey L. Eckstine and wife Bonnie of Clermont, FL, Jim Buchanan of Longview, TX, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sisters Virginia Ott, Jane Sheldon, Josephine Houck and one brother Scott Pittenger Jr.

A memorial service will be held on Monday September 30 at 11:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church 45 North Washington St. Greencastle with Pastor Stacy Crawford and her son-in-law Dick Marks officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Rest Haven Cemetery Hagerstown, MD. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 10:00 – 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in her memory to the American Heart Association 417 Phoenix Dr. Chambersburg, PA 17201. Arrangements are being handled by the Harold M.
