Doris Jean Shanholtz

Doris Jean Shanholtz, age 84, of Greencastle, PA, passed away on Friday, December 17, 2021, at the Shook Home. Born July 7, 1937, in Antrim Township, PA, she was the daughter of the late Howard L. Cordell and Emma F. Bitner Cordell Kennedy.

Mrs. Shanholtz was a 1955 graduate of the Greencastle Antrim Senior High School. After graduation she continued her career as a seamstress at the former J. Schoenaman Company in Chambersburg, where she would dedicate over 40 years until she retired. After retirement, she went back to work cleaning houses and working at the Greencastle Antrim School District for three years. She was a member of the Greencastle VFW Auxiliary. Doris enjoyed caring for her grandchildren, time with family, sewing, watching movies, going to flea markets and yard sales.

Surviving is her husband, L. Keith Shanholtz, whom she married August 7, 2000; two children, Deborah K. Timmons (husband Donald) of Greencastle, PA and Monte E. Nisewander (wife Lauren) of Greencastle, PA; three grandchildren, Dustin Franklin Timmons, Danae Emma Timmons, and Blake Franklin Nisewander; five step-children, Tim, Jamie (wife Veronica), Jerry, Andy (wife Tyann), and Alan (wife Cathy) Shanholtz; two siblings, Robert Cordell and Shirley “Sis” Murray (husband Charles “Son”); sister-in-law, Mitsie Shatzer (husband William “Bill”); and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and extended family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Franklin A. “Boots” Nisewander and sisters, A. Louise Davis and Florence Brindle and her step-father, Walter Kennedy.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, December 27, 2021, at 1 PM at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle, PA, where Rev. Harry Miller will officiate. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Marion Volunteer Fire Company,  Greencastle-Antrim Education Foundation, Shook Home of Chambersburg, or Grane Hospice Care of Harrisburg. Arrangements are entrusted to the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc., Greencastle, PA.
