Doris C. (Cope) Cavanaugh

Doris Cope Cavanaugh, 88, of Greencastle, PA, passed away peacefully on Saturday May 9, 2015. She was born November, 24, 1926 in Phoenix, AZ to Frank and Ann Cope. She grew up in Georgetown, Washington DC and was a graduate of Western High School.
Doris is survived by her husband of 69 years, Thomas L Cavanaugh of Greencastle, PA, son, T. Patrick Cavanaugh and wife Molly of Conyers, GA, two daughters, Cathy Twigg and her husband Danny of Martinsburg, WV, Kerry Lewis and her husband Randy of Spotsylvania, VA. She was preceded in death by her son, Shawn Cavanaugh. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Doris worked for many years at Providence Center in Arnold, MD as a Program Coordinator for many years. She was employed by the Brethren Church in Chambersburg, PA and retired as CCD Religious Coordinator at St. Mark Catholic Church of Greencastle and St. Luke Catholic Church of Mercersburg, PA.
Doris was an active volunteer throughout her life as a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader, swim coach of the Loch Haven swim team, volunteer teacher at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Edgewater, Md. Doris volunteered her time by cooking and catering for various non-profit organizations.
There will be a special Mass of Celebration held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May, 22, 2015 at St. Mark Catholic Church 385 South Ridge Ave. Greencastle, PA with Rev. Joseph L. Stahura as celebrant. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Mark and St. Luke CCD religious programs or Hospice of Martinsburg, WV in honor of Doris Cavanaugh.
