Donald Glen Witmer Sr.
Donald Glen Witmer Sr., age 80 of Spring Grove Ave. Greencastle, PA died unexpectedly at 9:00 A.M. Monday, April 8, 2013 in the emergency room of the Waynesboro Hospital.
Born May 29, 1932 in Bino, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Franklin and Thelma (Lindsey) Witmer.
In his earlier years, he worked for the former American Abattoir in Greencastle and then retired after 39 � years of service with Hoffman''s Meats near Cearfoss, MD.
He was a life member of the NRA, life member of the Greencastle Sportsman Association and a member of the Bucktail Sportsman of Emporium, PA.
Donald was an avid hunter and sportsman, NASCAR fan and enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Cameron County, PA and enjoyed being with his great-grandchildren.
He and his wife, Evangeline (Mellott) Witmer were married November 16, 1951.
Surviving family in addition to his wife of 61 years are one son Donald "Buck" Witmer Jr. and wife Deborah Kay of Greencastle, one daughter Virginia White and husband William of Greencastle, six grandchildren Robert Witmer, Alisha Simon, Larissa Witmer, Scott White, William White, Craig White, four great-grandchildren Charles Witmer, Martin Witmer, Autumn White, Shane White and three sisters Mary Tosten, of Greencastle, Helen Timmons and Linda Keefer, both of Mercersburg.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers Emmert Witmer, Harold Witmer, Bernard Witmer and Lawrence Witmer.
Funeral services will be held on Friday April 12 at 2:30 P.M. from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with the Rev. Brian Triller officiating. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery McConnellsburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6 - 8 P.M. Online condolences may be expressed at www.zimmermanfh.com.
