Donald E. Statler

Donald E. Statler, age 91, a resident of the Orrstown Personal Care Home, Orrstown, PA and formerly of Williamson and Chambersburg died at 8:50 AM Monday, August 11, 2014 in the personal care home.

Born February 9, 1923 in Antrim Township, Franklin Co. PA, he was the son of the late Edgar and Kathryn (Gelsinger) Statler. His first wife, Betty M. (Fitz) Statler died July 29, 2006.

In his younger years, he was a farmer, worked at Grove Worldwide and at Gulfstream Co. He retired from Agway where he worked as a furnace service technician and in fuel oil delivery.

Donald was a faithful member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church of Williamson where he served on church council and many committees. He served from 1964 - 74 on the St. Thomas Township and Tuscarora School District school boards. Donald was a charter member of the Williamson Ruritan Club where he enjoyed serving on the ice cream project committee.

He married his second wife Lois (George) Hinkle Statler in 2007.

Surviving family in addition to his wife are two sons, Dennis E. Statler and wife Karen of Greencastle, Duane E. Statler and wife Janice of Chambersburg, two daughters, Melverna K. Brewer and husband Alex of Wildwood, FL, Marilyn S. Houck and late husband James of Williamson, four grandchildren, Dana Statler and wife Jen, Daren Statler and wife Jeni, Dale Statler, Kayla Statler, six great-grandchildren, Nathan, Jesse, Noah, Evan, Micah and Bella Statler, one brother, Larry Statler and wife Nancy of Charles Town, WV, several step-children, step-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews

In addition to his parents and his first wife, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, infant son Dale, brothers Paul, Thomas and Robert Statler and two sisters Ruth Fahrney and Mary Ellen Stepler.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 14 at 11:00 AM from the St. Luke’s Lutheran Church 5327 Warm Spring Rd. Williamson with Rev. Alan R. Wilson officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in the Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6 – 8 PM at the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle. Memorial contributions may be given in his memory to the St. Luke’s Lutheran Church C/O Jenny Keller Treasurer, 261 Ledge Dr. Chambersburg, PA 17201 or to the Orrstown Personal Care Home 3329 Orrstown Rd.
