Donald H. Hoover

Donald H. Hoover, age 87 of Nicole Dr. Greencastle, PA died at 9:58 AM Tuesday April 18, 2017 in the Chambersburg Hospital. He had been in declining health the past several months.

Born August 29, 1929 in Greencastle, PA,  he was the son of the late John and Edith (Beard) Hoover. He married his wife Louella M. (Davis) Hoover on November 4, 1950. She died on March 6, 2017.

Don retired after 44 years working as a supervisor in shipping and receiving for L.E. Beck (Beck Mfg.) and Anvil Products of Greencastle. He attended Greencastle High School and served in the US Army during the Korean War.

Don was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Greencastle, life member of the Rescue Hose Co. # 1 where he was a past president of the fire company, life member of the Harry D. Zeigler V.F.W Post #6319 of Greencastle, where he served as club president. He was a member of the Frank L. Carbaugh American Legion Post #373 of Greencastle, member of the Eagles of Waynesboro and a member of the Moose Lodge of Waynesboro.

Don played minor league professional baseball for the Philadelphia Athletics. He coached teams both in the Greencastle Little and. Pony Leagues and was active in and served as president of the Greencastle Baseball Association. He was an avid New York Yankees fan, loved playing cards over the years with his friends at the Greencastle fire hall and VFW.

For many years, he and his wife enjoyed attending and supporting high school sporting events. He enjoyed spending time with his family, golfing and every year looked forward to the Rescue Hose Co. Fireman’s Carnival, where he enjoyed eating numerous Hoco burgers.

Surviving family are three sons, Donald L. Hoover and wife Debra of Jacksonville, FL, R. Joe Hoover and his significant other Marilyn Boyd Snyder of Greencastle, Tony A. Hoover and wife Sheila of Greencastle, four grandchildren, Brad Hoover, Bret Hoover, Brook Hoover all of Jacksonville, FL, Megan Hoover of Greencastle and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.

Services and interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be given in his memory  to the American Cancer Society 924-N Colonial Avenue, York, PA 17403.
