Dick Mentzer, age 79 of 3333 Sportsman Rd. Greencastle, Pa. died at 8:28 P.M. Tuesday, October 26, 2010 in the Chambersburg Hospital.

Born May 29, 1931 in Needmore, Pa., he was the son of the late Keller T. and Viola H. (Snyder) Mentzer.

Dick retired from the Letterkenny Army Depot of Chambersburg after 33 years of employment. He was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the U.S. Air Force.

He was a member of the Frank L. Carbaugh American Legion Post #373 of Greencastle. He enjoyed having family picnics and playing the steel guitar. He played his guitar for the late Merle Everts band, the Hilltop Harmonizers.

He and his wife, Faye (Everts) Mentzer were married January 14, 1956 in Louisville, KY.

Surviving family in addition to his wife are one daughter Melody Mentzer, Greencastle, two sisters Verna Keesecker, Berkeley Springs W.V., Katherine Bishop, Chambersburg and one brother Gerald Mentzer, Needmore, Pa. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Thomas, Bob, Larry and Donald Mentzer.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday October 30 at 10:00 A.M. from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with Chaplain Kitty Lippy officiating. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery in McConnellsburg, Pa. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6 - 8 P.M. Memorial contributions may be given in his memory to the Memorial Fund of the Evangelical Lutheran Church 130 N. Washington St. Greencastle, Pa. 17225.
