David W. Statler, age 87 of 255 Baumgardner Dr. Greencastle died unexpectedly at 5:30 P.M. Saturday, March 12, 2011 in his home.
Born September 2, 1923 in Antrim Twp. Franklin County, PA., he was the son of the late D.J. Raymond and Nellie Blanche (Hoover) Statler.
David was employed as a manager of the former Acme Grocery Stores in Greencastle and Chambersburg and later worked 25 years as a meat cutter at the former Acme Abattoir in Greencastle retiring in 1983. He was a 1941 graduate of Greencastle High School and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. David enjoyed gardening, baking, playing the keyboard and guitar.
He and his wife, Isabelle L. (Myers) Statler were married July 1, 1948 in Greencastle.
Surviving family in addition to his wife are one son David E. Statler, Greencastle, four brothers Charles H. Statler, Robert W. Statler. Thomas E. Statler and Richard E. Statler, all of Greencastle, two sisters Frances Keller and Evelyn Thompson, both of Greencastle, two grandsons and two great-granddaughters. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers Donald Statler, Ivan Statler and Carroll Dean Statler.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday morning March 19 at 10:00 A.M. from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle with Pastor Stacy Crawford officiating. Burial with graveside military honors provided by the Chambersburg V.F.W. Honor Guard Post #1599 will be in the Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6 - 8 P.M.
