David E. Shoemaker, age 64 of Worleytown Road Greencastle, PA died at 10:20 AM Sunday, July 12, 2015 at the Penn State Hershey Medical Center following an extended illness.
Born June 26, 1951 in Sharpsburg, MD, he was the son of the late Allen and Leona (Shoop) Shumaker. He married Rachel A. (Clever) Shoemaker on May 25, 1974 in Mercersburg.
He retired after 40 years at Grove Worldwide (Manitowoc) in Shady Grove as a diesel mechanic and final assembler.
David was an active member of the St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church near Greencastle, where he served on church council. He was a 1969 graduate of Boonsboro High School. He enjoyed camping with his grandchildren and going on cruises.
Surviving family in addition to his wife Rachel are two daughters Rebecca L. Straitiff and husband Roy of Greencastle, Kimberly K. Lutz of Greencastle, three grandchildren, Paige, Courtnie, Carter, one brother Robert Shumaker of Williamsburg, VA, two sisters, Martha Hollinshead of Waynesboro, PA, Esther Semler of Berkeley Springs, WV, one step-grandson, Roy Straitiff Jr. of Uniontown, PA, brothers and sisters-in-law and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant sister.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 17 at 10:00 AM from the St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church 8835 Lemar Rd. Greencastle with Rev. Alan R. Wilson officiating. Burial will be in the Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle and at the church one hour before the service on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in his memory to the Penn State Hershey Medical Center LVAD Research, 500 University Dr. H047, Hershey, PA 17033 or to St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church 8835 Lemar Rd.
