David Leroy “Roy” Heckman
David Leroy “Roy” Heckman, age 92 of Chambersburg, PA died at 6:47 AM Thursday, November 6, 2014 in Menno Haven of Chambersburg.
Born April 21, 1922 in Montgomery Twp. Franklin County, PA, he was the son of the late David E. Heckman and Fannie C. (Blattenberger) Heckman Diffenderfer. He married Sarah Irene “Rena” (Hawbaker) Heckman on April 25, 1943. She died on December 17, 2011.
Roy was a farmer and then worked for 28 years at TB Wood’s Inc. of Chambersburg. He enjoyed woodworking, blacksmithing, hosting pig roasts at his home, hosting the annual Heckman family reunion and other neighborhood gatherings.
Surviving family are three sons Ronald L. (wife Willette) Heckman of El Paso, TX, Donald R. (wife Anna M.) Heckman of Fayetteville, John D. (wife Deborah A.) Heckman of Spring Mount, PA, three daughters, Dorothy K. Overcash of Chambersburg, Darlene C. (husband Jeffrey) Coldsmith of Chambersburg, Kathy D. (husband Gregory) Goetz of Fayetteville, fourteen grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one grandson Bret Overcash, brothers, James Heckman, Frank Heckman, Preston Heckman and one sister Anna Barnhart.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday November 15 at 11:00 AM from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with Rev. Leon Yoder officiating. Burial will be in the Upton Church Of The Brethren Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6 -8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in his memory to the American Heart Association 417A Phoenix Dr. Chambersburg, PA 17201.
