Daniel H. Horst, age 100, a resident of the Mennonite Fellowship Home, Huyett Lane Hagerstown, MD died at 10:40 AM Monday March 7, 2016 in the home.
Born September 27, 1915 in Maugansville, MD, he was the son of the late Clarence E. and Nannie B. (Horst) Horst. He married his wife Florence M. (Lehman) Horst on November 28, 1940. She died on November 16, 2003.
Daniel was a farmer and had worked for the former Maugansville Elevator and Lumber Co. He was a member of the Mount Olive Mennonite Church near Maugansville.
Surviving family are three sons, Leonard E. Horst of Hagerstown, Charles L. Horst of Clear Spring, MD, Richard D. Horst of Hagerstown, eleven grandchildren, forty-nine great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren, one brother Edgar Horst of Maugansville and one sister, Elizabeth Martin of Chambersburg.
In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one grandson, one great-grandson, one sister Ida Horst and one brother Aden Horst.
Funeral services will be held on Friday morning March 11 at 10:00 AM at the Mount Olive Mennonite Church 13305 Maugansville Rd. Hagerstown with the Mount Olive Mennonite Church Ministry officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle and at the church one hour before the service on Friday. The family requests that flowers be omitted.
