Charles E. Yates Sr., age 72 of 10179 Letzburg Rd. Greencastle, Pa. died at 5:25 P.M. Saturday, January 10, 2009 in his home. He had been in declining health for the past year.

Born August 22, 1936 in Cool Springs, Watauga County, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Edward Commodore and Mamie Blanche (Matheson) Yates.

He had worked as a police officer in Blowing Rock N.C. and also for the Sherriff''s Dept. of Watauga Co. N.C. He last worked as a Loss Prevention Manager with K-Mart having retired from the Chambersburg, Pa. store.

Mr. Yates was a member of the Macedonia United Brethren Church of Greencastle, Pa. where he sang with the Macedonia Messengers. He was the manager, lead vocalist and upright bass player with The Country Gospelaires since 1982.

He enjoyed restoring antique gas pumps.

He and his wife, Mary A. (Miller) Yates were married December 22, 1977 in York, Pa.

Son, Dennis K. Yates, Mount Joy, Pa.

Daughter, Dorothy V. "Ginger" Adrian, Carlisle, Pa.

Step-Son - John Timothy Leonard, Columbia, Pa.

Step-Daughter - Deborah Ellen Yates, Greencastle, Pa.

Sister - Rose Edna Harmon, Banner Elk, N.C.

Two Brothers, Herbert Hoover Yates, Banner Elk, N.C. and Ralph Edward Yates, Boone, N.C.

Six Grandchildren and Eight Great-grandchildren

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: two sons, Brian E. Yates in 2004, Charles E. Yates Jr. in 2006 and six sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday January 15 at 11:00 A.M. from the Macedonia United Brethren Church 11887 Worleytown Rd. Greencastle with Rev. Gayle L. Ruble Sr. officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6 - 8 P.M. at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle, Pa. and at the church one hour before the service on Thursday. Memorial contributions may be given in his memory to the Macedonia United Brethren Church 11887 Worleytown Rd.
