Charles B. "Charlie" Stine, Sr., age 90 of Ridge Rd. Waynesboro, PA died at 12:34 P.M. Friday, May 4, 2012 in St. Mary''s Hospital in Leonardtown, Md. He had been in declining health the past year. At the time of his death, Charles was visiting with his daughter Linda and had been living the past three years with his daughter Barbara and family in Greencastle.

Born May 19, 1921 in Mercersburg, PA, he was the son of the late Columbus Christopher and Lulu Irene (Forsythe) Stine. He married Lois V. (Mowen) Stine on April 10, 1952 in Hagerstown. She died on April 14, 2008. Charles retired from the Landis Tool Co. of Waynesboro.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War having served in the 83rd Infantry Division in World War II and in the 25th Infantry Division in Korea. He served in the Invasion of Normandy and in the Battle of the Bulge. He received numerous medals including the Purple Heart after being wounded in Germany.

Charles was a life member of the Harry D. Zeigler V.F.W. Post #6319 and a member of the Frank L. Carbaugh American Legion Post #373, both of Greencastle. He also was a member of the Mercersburg Sportsman Association and attended the Otterbein United Brethren Church of Greencastle.

Surviving family are two daughters Linda (husband Andy) Hilbert, Mechanicsville, MD, Barbara (husband Jim) Beaver, Greencastle, three sons Charles B. Stine Jr., Mercersburg, Jeffrey L. (wife Jenny) Stine, Rouzerville, Steven C. Stine Sr., Waynesboro, eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
He was the last of his immediate family. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one sister and six brothers.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday May 10 at 1:00 P.M. from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with Rev. David G. Rawley officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the Chambersburg V.F.W. Post #1599 Honor Guard will be in the Parklawns Memorial Gardens Chambersburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6 - 8 P.M. The Greencastle V.F.W. will hold a memorial service on Wednesday at 7:30 P.M. in the funeral home.
