Charles H. Statler
Charles H. Statler, age 90 of Greencastle, PA died unexpectedly at 1:07 AM Tuesday, June 23, 2015 in the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born April 9, 1925 in Antrim Township, Franklin County, PA, he was the son of the late D.J. Raymond and Nellie Blanche (Hoover) Statler. He married Mary Jane (Fox) Statler on April 5, 1947. She died on December 17, 1996. He married Dorothy L. (Thompson) Statler in December 1998. She died on October 31, 2009.
Charles retired after 33years employment as a brakeman with the Western Maryland Railroad. He was a part-time farmer most of his life.
Charles had also owned a Gulf Service Station in Greencastle, worked for the former A.G. Crunkleton Electric Co. and J.J. Smith Painting Co. both of Greencastle. In his younger years he drove school bus and hauled milk.
He was a US Army veteran of World War II having served in the European Theatre.
Charles was a member of the Calvary Bible Church of Greencastle and he enjoyed gardening and butchering.
Surviving family are four daughters Cheryl Burkholder and husband Paul of Fayetteville, PA, Julie Statler, Torncee Phillippy and husband John, Carol Rockwell and husband Dirk, all of Greencastle, three sons, Terry L. Statler and fiancée Susan Bender of Chambersburg, Tim C. Statler and wife Michelle, John R. Statler and wife Julie, all of Greencastle, two sisters, Frances Keller and Evelyn Thompson, both of Greencastle, two brothers, Tom Statler, Robert Statler, both of Greencastle, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wives, he was preceded in death by five brothers David Statler, Donald Statler, Ivan Statler, Richard Statler and Carroll Dean Statler.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday morning June 27 at 10:00 AM from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with Rev. Herman Fisler officiating. Burial with graveside military honors provided by the Chambersburg V.F.W. Honor Guard Post #1599 will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery near Quincy, PA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in his memory to the charity of one’s choice.
