Charles E. Stahl, age 91, a resident of Menno Haven of Chambersburg and formerly of Walter Ave. Greencastle, PA died at 7:40 PM Saturday, September 10, 2016 at the Menno Haven Nursing Center.
Born September 17, 1924 in Mercersburg, PA, he was the son of the late Charles Omer and Ruth (Auman) Stahl. He married his wife Elizabeth (Haldeman) Stahl on February 24, 1945. She died on September 17, 2015.
Charles was a farmer having farmed at Church Hill near Mercersburg from April 1945 to January 1956 and then he relocated to Upton, PA. In 1960 he took over the Oliver Implement business in Lemasters, PA. In 1976, he began working at the Nibble With Gibble’s Potato Chip plant near Chambersburg where he worked as a fryer operator until he retired in 1989.
In 1996 he moved to his Walter Ave. home in Greencastle, where he spent much time doing small projects of wood working, building several Grandmother clocks and a Grandfather clock.
He attended school at Lemasters, was a member of the former Upton Lions Club and enjoyed restoring a 1949 Chevy and an Oliver Super 55 diesel tractor.
Charles was a member of the Brandts Church of the Brethren near St. Thomas.
Surviving family are one son Eugene Stahl and wife Louise of Greencastle, one brother Marvin “Dean” Stahl of Mercersburg, four granddaughters and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife Elizabeth of 70 years, he was preceded in death by a daughter Darlene Stahl Eberly in 2014.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday September 14 at 10:00 AM from the Brandts Church of the Brethren 8003 Brandts Church Road St. Thomas, PA with Pastor Roger Myers officiating. Burial will be in the Upton Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Upton, PA. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle. The family requests that flowers be omitted and memorial contributions may be given in his memory to Here’s Hope Ministries P.O. Box 505 Roanoke, Indiana 46783.
