Charles A. McCoy, age 89 a resident of the Shook Home and The Quarters at the Shook for the past 9 1/2 years Chambersburg and formerly of Greencastle died at 11:58 A.M. Friday February 19, 2010 in the Shook Home.
Born August 16, 1920 in Antrim Twp. Franklin County, Pa., he was the son of the late Ralph D. and Mary E. (Beard) McCoy.
He served an apprenticeship with Landis Tool Co. Waynesboro from 1947 - 50 and retired from there in 1983 as a supervisor in the Methods Dept.
Charles was a member of the Otterbein United Brethren Church Greencastle where he served on the church board and as Sunday School Superintendent for many years.
Charles was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific Theatre reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was honorably discharged from the Army on February 12, 1946. He earned his GED degree in 1959. He enjoyed walking, reading, volunteering at Shook Home and being at the Landis Tool Retirees breakfasts. Charles was a blood donor with the American Red Cross having exceeded over 5 gallons donated.
Surviving family are one son Guy A. (wife Linda) McCoy, State Line, Pa., sister Betty (husband Sidney) Creager, Waynesboro, Pa., grandson Curtis A. (wife Christine) McCoy, Dillsburg, Pa., granddaughter Tina M. (husband Christopher) Clever Greencastle, Pa., 3 great-grandchildren Ethan C. Clever, Taegen J. McCoy, Tanner F. McCoy and former daughter-in-law and dear friends Pauline E. "Polly" (husband John F. Jr.) Martin, Chambersburg, Pa.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers James McCoy, Chester McCoy and a sister Phyllis T. Goetz.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday February 23 at 11:00 A.M. from the Otterbein United Brethren Church 146 Leitersburg St. Greencastle with Rev. David G. Rawley officiating. Burial with military graveside honors provided by the Chambersburg V.F.W. Post #1599 Honor Guard will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service on Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be given in his memory to the Quarters at the Shook 55 South Second St. Chambersburg, Pa. 17201 or to Otterbein United Brethren Church 146 Leitersburg St. Greencastle, Pa. 17225.
