Charles Robert Mccleary

Charles Robert McCleary, age 86, of Greencastle, PA passed away on Monday, December 6, 2021, at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born May 18, 1935, in Guilford Township, PA, he was the son of the late Roy L. and Margaret Deardorff McCleary.

A 1954 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School, Mr. McCleary went on to work at the former Chambersburg Engineering Company, the former Grove Worldwide and lastly for Mack Truck, where he retired in 1997 after 31 years as a Draftsman/Designer. He was a member of the Mt. Pisgah Lodge 443, Greencastle Sportsman’s Association, Greencastle American Legion and VFW, and the Marion Volunteer Fire Company, where he was a life member. Mr. McCleary enjoyed playing cards at the fire hall, hunting, fishing, golf, taking rides during the day, and going to AC&T. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing baseball for the former Franklin County Adult League, playing softball and coaching both baseball and softball. He served as a PIAA Baseball Official for many years.

Surviving is his wife of 64 years, Martha Shank McCleary, whom he married June 22, 1957, two sons, W. Bradley McCleary (wife Gwyn) of Chambersburg, PA and Robert R. McCleary of Greencastle, PA; three grandchildren, Zachary McCleary (wife Mary) , Rebecca McCleary, and Sara McCleary; four great-grandchildren, Allison McCleary, Kyden Wolfe, Scarlet McCleary, and Delaney McCleary; and a brother, Ronald McCleary. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, C. Christopher McCleary in 1987 and a brother, Harold McCleary.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at 3 PM at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Greencastle, 130 N. Washington St., Greencastle, PA, where Pastor Martin Horn will officiate. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service in the above church. Arrangements are entrusted to the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc., Greencastle, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Marion Volunteer Fire Company, 5465 Molly Pitcher Highway, Chambersburg, PA 17202.
