Charles D. "Red" Hoffman, age 83 of 4980 Buchanan Trail West Greencastle, Pa. died unexpectedly at 1:56 P.M. Friday, September 14, 2007 in the Waynesboro Hospital. He had been in declining health for the past six years.
Born January 16, 1924 in Antrim Twp. Franklin Co. Pa., he was the son of the late Roy E. and Leila (Renner) Hoffman.
He retired after nearly 40 years working for the former United Telephone Co. and Sprint Telephone Co.
Mr. Hoffman was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Greencastle and a member of the Telephone Pioneers Chambersburg District.
He also was a member of the Mount Pisgah Lodge No. 443 F. & A.M. of Greencastle, member and past president of the Franklin County Shrine Club, member of the Zembo Shrine Club of Harrisburg and a member of the Harrisburg Consistory.
Mr. Hoffman was a member of the Harry D. Zeigler V.F.W. Post #6319 of Greencastle and a member of the Mercersburg American Legion. He also was a former member and past president of the Greencastle Lions Club and a member for over 50 years of the Rescue Hose Co. #1 of Greencastle.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He and his wife, Mildred L. (Phenicie) Hoffman were married February 15, 1947 in the Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Son, Ronald L. (Husband of Robin) Hoffman, Chambersburg, Pa.
Three Sisters, Ethel Meyers of Greencastle, Pa., Dorothy Zimmerman of Chambersburg, Pa. and Edith Kitzmiller of Phoenix, Arizona
Five Grandchildren and Three great-grandchildren
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Mary Shaffer and a brother Elmer Hoffman.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday September 18 at 10:30 A.M. from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle, Pa. with Rev. Martin H. Horn officiating. Burial with military graveside honors by the Chambersburg V.F.W. Post #1599 Honor Guard will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Mercersburg, Pa. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 - 9 P.M. where a Masonic memorial service will be conducted at 8:30 P.M. by the Mount Pisgah Lodge.
