Charles Edwin Freshman, age 87, of Greencastle, PA, passed away on Monday, December 2, 2024, at his home. Born September 20, 1937, in Greencastle, PA, he was the son of the late Charles J. and Sara Tice Freshman.
Mr. Freshman attended Greencastle Antrim Senior High School. He went on to a career driving truck beginning with Dairymaid, then Servamation, and retiring from D.M. Bowman. In retirement, Mr. Freshman worked at the Food Lion in Greencastle and then the Martin’s Supermarket in Greencastle as the facilities’ maintenance person. He was a life member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and the Rescue Hose Co. No. 1 as well as a member of the VFW and American Legion, all in Greencastle. Mr. Freshman enjoyed caring for his yard, mowing grass, singing, especially as part of the Greencastle Minstrel Show, where he sang since 1960, however spending time with his grandchildren and great- grandson was his passion, it made his day. A jovial soul, he enjoyed playing a joke, making others smile and just being around other people.
Surviving is his wife of 64 years, Nancy Snider, whom he married on January 20, 1960; a daughter, Beth Freshman (Debra Alexander) of Waynesboro, PA; three grandchildren, Brittany-Marie, Nevaeh, and Addison Alexander; a great-grandson, Ian Alexander; Brothers, Carroll “Rudy” Freshman (Shirley) and Daryl Freshman (Sandy); sisters, Donna Wolfe (Leroy), Virginia Unterseher (Arvid), Beverly Cleaton (Donald), and Sherry Bingaman (Chester). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa K. Freshman, a grandson, Scott Alexander, and four siblings, Ronald, William “Buck”, and Richard “Rick” Freshman and Karen Freshman Johns.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 10 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1186 Jason Dr., Greencastle, PA 17225, where Pastor Denise Horn will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow the service in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Frensenius Kidney Care and Dialysis Center, 22 Vista Drive, Waynesboro, PA 17268 Arrangements are entrusted by the Harold M.
