Charles E. Cordell, age 75 of 234 East Baltimore St. Greencastle died at 2:50 P.M. Monday, July 26, 2010 in his home following a lengthy illness.
Born June 16, 1935 in Marion, Pa., he was the son of the late Wilbur J. and Wilda C. (Holstay) Cordell.
Charles worked at Corning Glass Works of Greencastle for 37 years retiring in 1997. He was a life member of the Rescue Hose Co. #1 of Greencastle, member of the Marion Volunteer Fire Co., and a member of the Franklin/Fulton Co. Firemen''s Association. He was also a life member of the Harry D. Zeigler V.F.W. Post #6319 and Frank L. Carbaugh American Legion Post #373, both of Greencastle. Charles attended Greencastle High School and was a U.S. Army veteran. He enjoyed antiques and his cats.
He and his wife, Thelma (Nisewonder) Cordell were married July 21, 1958.
Surviving family in addition to his wife are one son Charles E. Cordell Jr., MD., Marlton, N.J., one daughter Michelle V. (wife of Paul) Benchoff, Fayetteville, Pa., two grandchildren, Chad and Andrew, one brother Harold "Whitey" Cordell, South Mountain, Pa., one sister Donna June (Cordell) Diehl, Chambersburg, Pa. and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister DeLee Ann (Cordell) Alleman.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Friday July 30 at 2:00 P.M. from the Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle with Chaplain John Winckler officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday from 12:30 - 2:00 P.M. at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle.
