Charles R. Adams Jr., age 87 of 3571 Conococheague Lane Greencastle, Pa. died at 6:41 P.M. Monday December 22, 2008 in the Hershey Medical Center from complications from heart by pass surgery earlier that day.
Born January 3, 1921 in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of the late Charles Ray Sr. and Anna Grace (Noll) Adams.
He worked at Beck & Benedict Hardware of Waynesboro for 25 years and for Waynesboro Electric for 20 years as an appliance repairman.
Mr. Adams was a member of the Macedonia United Brethren Church of Greencastle, member of the Amvets Post #224 of Chambersburg, life member of the Harry D. Zeigler V.F.W. Post #6319 and the Frank L. Carbaugh American Post #373, both of Greencastle.
He was also a member of the Forty & Eight Post #509, member of the Moose Lodge #1191 of Waynesboro and a member of the DAV.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in the European Theatre and received a purple heart and the European African Middle Eastern Campaign medal with 5 bronze stars.
He graduated from the former Washington Twp. School and he enjoyed farming.
He and his wife. Winifred K. (Rider) Adams were married in 1955 in Hagerstown.
Surviving family in addition to his wife are:
One sister, Shirley A. Aul, Greencastle and one brother Earl R. Adams, Greencastle.
Two nephews, Van Adams, Jeff Adams and one niece Teresa Hollinger whom he helped raise.
One step-grandson, Ted Barmont, Newburg, Pa.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth Adams and Paul Adams, a sister Margaret Kline and a step-daughter Katherine May Barmont.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday December 27 at 10:00 A.M. from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with Rev. Gayle L. Ruble Sr. officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the Chambersburg V.F.W. Post #1599 Honor Guard will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens Chambersburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6 - 8 P.M. Memorial contributions may be given in his memory to the Macedonia United Brethren Church 11887 Worleytown Rd.
