Cecil Johnson Gaver, age 82, of 15605 Pennsylvania Ave. North, State Line, Pa. died at 6:41 P.M. Sunday, February 24, 2008 in the Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown, Md.
Born May 23, 1925 in Highland, Frederick County, Md. he was the son of the late Grover C. and Mary E. (Johnson) Gaver.
He and his wife of 60 years, Betty Jean (Hoffman) Gaver were married December 24, 1947 in Smithsburg, Md.
Mr. Gaver was a foreman for the former Blake Construction Company of Hagerstown, Md. and later retired from Callas Construction of Hagerstown, Md. in 1986.
Mr. Gaver was a member of the Macedonia United Brethren Church of Greencastle, Pa. and a former 50 year member of the Trinity United Brethren Church of State Line, Pa. He was a member of the National AARP. He enjoyed traveling and in his earlier years camping with his family.
He was a United States Army Veteran of World War II particpating in the South Pacific Theater where he served with General Douglas MacArthur during the signing of the Peace Treaty at the Bay of Tokyo. He earned a Purple Heart and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon.

One Daughter, Cela M. Chelmey of Falling Waters, W.Va.
Three Grandchildren and Two Great-Grandchildren

He was preceded in death by two brothers Richard Gaver and James Gaver.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, February 28, 2008 from the Macedonia United Brethren Church, 11887 Worleytown Rd., Greencastle, Pa. with Rev. Gayle Ruble officiating. Burial will be in the Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown, Md with military honors provided by the Chambersburg V.F.W. Post #1599 Honor Guard. The family will receive friends on Wednesday night from 6-8 P.M. at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, Pa. and one hour prior to the services on Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the Building Fund of the Macedonia United Brethren Church, 11887 Worleytown Rd., Greencastle, Pa. 17225.
