Carrie Lucille (Landis) Martin

Carrie Lucille Martin, age 92, a lifelong resident of Maugansville, MD passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at Heritage Hills Retirement Home, where she had been a resident for the last 10 months. Born April 13, 1931, in Greencastle, PA, she was the daughter of the late Edgar St. Clair Landis and Emma Grace Kriner Landis.

A homemaker most of her adult life, Mrs. Martin enjoyed caring for her family. Once her children were teenagers, Mrs. Martin embarked on a new path, working outside the home. She began working at Cedar Ridge Children’s Home as a cook; she was very proud of this.  Mrs. Martin was a former member of the Maugansville Church. Gifted with a witty personality and sense of humor, she always kept you on your toes and enjoyed a good laugh. She had a passion for hospitality, cooking, sewing, rug hooking and camping.

Surviving are four children, Shirley Rowe of IL, Phyllis Shoemaker of Maugansville, MD, Delray Martin (wife Joy) of Chambersburg, PA, and Carla Shoemaker (husband Roy) of Hagerstown, MD; six grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Martin in 1988 and a daughter, Diane Martin.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at 2:30 Pm in the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc., 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, PA 17225, where Chaplain Steve Barnett will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will follow the service in Shank’s Church Cemetery. If desired, memorial contributions may be made in her name to Franklin Hospice, 209 Grant St, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
