Carolyn J. "Carol" Yohn

April 16, 1946 — July 13, 2023

Greencastle, PA

Carolyn J. “Carol” Yohn, age 77, of Greencastle, PA passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at her home with her daughters by her side. Born in Loysville, PA, she was the beloved daughter of the late Anna Grace Hampton Shoop-Reed with whom she shared a birthday.

Carol was a 1965 graduate of Southern Huntingdon High School.  She went on to earn her Associate’s Degree from the IBM School in Harrisburg, PA.  Early in her professional life, Carol lived and worked in Carlisle for the former United Telephone Company and Blue Cross and Blue Shield. Ultimately, Carol found and enjoyed a long career in Banking, starting at First National Bank in Greencastle as a teller and retiring from First Ed Credit Union after 13 years as Assistant Manager.

Carol enjoyed dancing and met Richard, the love of her life, at a dance in Nossville.  They married on November 2, 1968 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Shade Gap and spent the rest of their lives dancing together.  Shortly after getting married, the two ventured to New Hampshire to begin their life and family.  Eventually, they returned to Pennsylvania, settling in Greencastle where they raised their three daughters, created rich and lasting friendships, and were active in the community and their church.  Carol and Richard remained in their home for nearly fifty years.

Carol had a gift for caring for others, which often meant cooking a large meal that included everyone’s favorite side dish and baking a full table of desserts.  Carol loved to travel and was fortunate to have visited many destinations throughout the US and abroad, her favorite being Barcelona, Spain. Most recently, Carol took a very special trip with her daughters to Playa del Carmen, Mexico.  Carol especially enjoyed spending the winter months in Bradenton, Florida with her husband.  Together, they volunteered as members of the Events and Entertainment Committee in their Bradenton community, and Carol served as the committee’s Treasurer.  Gardening, golf, bowling, shuffleboard, and baking were among Carol’s other favorite pastimes.  Above all, she adored her family and was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be deeply missed.

Carol is survived by three cherished daughters, Tonya Woody (Doug) of Fort Mill, SC, Tara Triplett (Jon) of Lenoir, NC, and Tamela Drews (Greg) of Marietta, GA; seven adored grandchildren, Benjamin, Evan, Carter, Rowan, Ayden, Piper, and Ryker; and five siblings, Donald Shoop, Florence Crawford (Guy), John Shoop, Jr. (Cathy), Belvy Shoop (Sandra), and Herbert Shoop. In addition to her mother, Carol was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Richard W. “Dick” Yohn, on June 10, 2022.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, July 21, 2023, at 11 AM at St. Mark the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 395 S. Ridge Ave., Greencastle, PA 17225, where Rev. Fr.
