Mr. Carl Wingert Meyers, 87, of Chambersburg, died early Wednesday morning, April 10, 2013, at his residence. He was the husband of Mrs. Mary Alice Meyers Meyers who preceded him in death on January 9, 2003.
Born June 9, 1925, at home in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late B. Franklin "Frank" and Bertha A. Wingert Meyers.
Mr. Meyers was a dairy farmer, and farming was his passion. Following retirement, he painted for family and friends.
He was also an active member of his church, the Old Order River Brethren Church, where from 1965 until recently served as a minister.
Surviving are his children, Kenneth E. Meyers and wife Viola of Chambersburg, and Doris I. Sollenberger and husband Dennis of Mercersburg; eleven grandchildren and thirty-six great grandchildren; as well as siblings Anna Mary Frey of Mercersburg, and Aiden S. Meyers and wife Margie of St. Thomas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Jerry Lynn Sollenberger; and an infant brother.
The family will receive friends at Harold M. Zimmerman & Son Funeral Home, 45 South Carlisle Street, Greencastle, on Monday, April 15, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM as well as Tuesday, April 16, at Upton Church Of The Brethren, 8490 Warm Spring Road, Greencastle from 9:00 AM until the funeral service. The funeral service will being at the church at 10:00 AM. The ministers officiating will be Nathan Burkholder, David Heckman and Garnet Myers. Interment will follow at Meyers Cemetery, Welsh Run. The omission of flowers is requested.
