Carl Edward Amsley, age 77 of 27 West Madison St. Greencastle, Pa. died at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, September 3, 2009 in his home.
Born November 16, 1931 in Cove Gap, Pa., he was the son of the late Theodore E. and Helen L. (Mummert) Amsley.
He was employed from 1952 - 1960 for Joseph G. Levy of Harrisburg and at Corning Glass Works from 1960 till 1987 when he retired as supervisor of accounting. Carl was a 1951 graduate of Lemasters High School and a graduate of Chambersburg Business School. He was a member of the First Assembly Of God Church of Greencastle where he served as church treasurer for 35 years and as a Sunday School teacher for 50 years.
Carl had served for 20 years on the Greencastle Borough Town Council as a member and former council president. He also was a Board Of Associates member of the former First National Bank of Greencastle.
He and his wife, Joyce V. Daley were married September 20, 1952 in Greencastle. They have lived at their current residence for 56 years.
Surviving family in addition to his wife are two daughters, Tonya S. (Wife of David) Nichols, Greencastle, Margaret E. "Peggy" (Wife of Stephen) Hemler, Boiling Springs, Pa.; two sons, Joel E. (Husband of Karen) Amsley, Craig E. (Husband of Ann) Amsley, both of Greencastle; 10 grandchildren, Sara and David Nichols, Janelle and James Amsley, Cristina, Cayla and Creighton Amsley, Madison, Sydney and Amelia Hemler; two brothers, Charles Amsley, Mercersburg, Clarence Amsley, Upton; two sisters, Gladys L. Hawbaker and Margaret A, Bowers, both of Mercersburg.
He was preceded in death by a sister Delores Jean Shannon, brother Theodore Amsley II and half-brother Richard L. Amsley.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday September 8 at 11:00 A.M. from the First Assembly Of God Church 525 E. Leitersburg St. Greencastle with Revs. Daniel Barnes, Chad Stoecker and Darryl Hogue officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 5 - 8 P.M. at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle and at the church one hour before the service on Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be given in his memory to the Building Fund of First Assembly Of God Church 525 E.
