C. Robert "Bob" Mellott, age 84 a resident of the Quincy Retirement Village and formerly of 6512 Lemar Rd., Mercersburg, PA died at 1:25 P.M. on Sunday, February 13, 2011 surrounded by his family in the nursing home.
Born, December 3, 1926 in Peters Twp., Franklin County PA, he was the son of the late C. Henderson and Mary Ruth (Zimmerman) Mellott.
He and his wife, Doris Mae (Secrest) Mellott were married November 20, 1949 in Blain, PA. She died on February 20, 2008.
He and his wife farmed at their farm on Lemar Road for 53 years having retired in 2002.
Bob was a member of the St. Stephens Lutheran Church near Upton, PA. He was also a member of the Franklin County Holstein Association, member of the Fort Loudon American Legion Post #0606 and he had served on the Franklin County Fair Board. Bob was a 1945 graduate of Lemasters High School and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in the 313th Medical Battalion. Bob enjoyed showing cattle and going to cattle shows, hunting, fishing, going to the beach and being with his family.
Surviving family are two daughters, Cynthia (wife of Charles) Goetz and Bonnie Helman both of Mercersburg; two sons, James R. (husband of Sherrie) Mellott and John M. Mellott both of Mercersburg; two brothers, Kenneth Mellott of Mercersburg, George Mellott of Mechanicsburg, PA; two sisters, June Mellott of Mercersburg, Doris Hartman of Taneytown, MD; seven grandchildren, Christopher Goetz, Stacy (Goetz) Andersen, Cory Mellott, Emme (Mellott) Rickabaugh, Doug Helman Jr., Robert Helman and LeAnn (Helman) Torres; seven great-grandchildren, Justin, Andrew, Timothy, Luke, Camden and Caleb Helman and Merin Grace Andersen, and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2011 at 10:00 AM from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle with Rev. Alan R. Wilson officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the Chambersburg V.F.W. Honor Guard Post # 1599 will be in the Welsh Run Church Of The Brethren Cemetery, Mercersburg. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home and one hour before the service on Saturday.
