Blanche Ethel (Sweeney) Clevenger, age 76 of Mercersburg, PA, went to be with the Lord with her family and friends by her side on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 in the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born, September 15, 1935 in Mercersburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late Charles I. and Nanny E. (Thomas) Sweeney.
She and her husband, Merle S. Clevenger were married March 6, 1954 in Hagerstown.
In her earlier years she worked as a baby sitter. Later she worked for the former Stanley Company of Chambersburg and the former Baer Packing/Fresh Express of Greencastle. She attended the Upton Full Gospel Church and visited the Community Pentecostal Mission Church in St. Thomas. Blanche enjoyed watching the Price Is Right game show and visiting nursing homes to sing old hymns to the residents.
Surviving family in addition to her husband are; one son, Merle Eugene Clevenger of Welsh Run, PA; five sisters, Betsy Robinson, Hazel Gordon, Reba Sweeney all of Mercersburg, PA, Dorothy (Dottie) Myers of Marion, PA and Sarah Richards of Greencastle, PA; two grandchildren, April L. Reese and Toby A. Clevenger; five great-grandchildren, Holly Reese, Heaven Reese, John Reese III, Drew and Bailey Clevenger. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Clevenger; a great-grandson, Dalton Reese; a sister, Gladys Harris; three brothers, Daniel, Charles, and William Sweeney; three nieces and four nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 16, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. from the Greencastle Church of God, 4480 Buchanan Trail West, Greencastle with Pastors Floyd Myers, J.J. Cook, Terry Appleby and Ruth Keefer officiating. Burial will be in the Montgomery Brethren In Christ Church Cemetery, near Mercersburg. The family will receive friends on Monday one hour before the service at the church. Arrangements are being handled by the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home, Greencastle.
