Billie Jeanne (Covalt) Sellers

May 24, 1925 — August 6, 2023

Waynesboro, PA

Billie Jeanne (Covalt) Sellers, age 98, resident of Quincy Village, Waynesboro, PA, and formerly of Greencastle, PA, was promoted to her heavenly home on August 6, 2023.

She was born on May 24, 1925, in Needmore, Fulton County, PA.  She was the daughter of Elmer B. Covalt and Nellie F. Bottenfield Covalt.  She was the youngest member of the family.

She graduated from Warfordsburg High School (now Southern Fulton) in 1941. In her senior year of high school, she worked at Bowsers Grocery and Deli, which was adjacent to the school.  She later worked at Hotel Hancock (then located in Hagerstown), and as bookkeeper for Woolworth's Store.

She married Leslie M. Sellers on September 19, 1946 at the St. John's Lutheran parsonage in Hagerstown, MD.  The couple resided at Andrews Air Force Base, Washington, D.C., for several years.  While there, Billie worked as an Avon Representative.  Their daughter, Cynthia, was born at the Walter Reed Hospital.  Later, they moved to the Greencastle area where they spent most of their lives.

When Billie Jeanne began to write, her first letter was to her Papa.  Since that time, she has handwritten many letters and also written daily in her diary.  At one point, she wrote articles for Tri-State Treasures Magazine.  She was a member of the Zullinger Home Makers Association.  She was a prayer partner for Child Evangelism Fellowship and was a member of Hollowell Brethren in Christ Church for eighteen years. Later, she attended Cutting Edge Ministries in Hagerstown, MD.  Her ministry was prayer and intercession for more than 65 years.  She was a member of Women's Aglow Fellowship for thirty-five years and served as a counselor, intercessor, historian and photographer.

She loved to play the piano from the age of nine. She enjoyed fishing and boating with her sisters on the Tonoloway Creek that ran through her parents' farm.  Billie Jeanne loved flowers, walking paths at the school farm, nature drives, birds, and cats, especially Puddy, her feline baby for many years.

She was preceded in death by her grandson, Jonathan A. Miller, who died while on a mission trip in Kentucky in July of 1999, and her husband of 65 years, Leslie Monroe Sellers, who died in January of 2012.  She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Lynn, John, Merrill, and Mark, an infant brother, Frank, and two sisters, Mary and Ruth.

Surviving members are one daughter, Cynthia J. Miller of Greencastle, PA (wife of W. Jonathan Miller); one granddaughter, Elizabeth A. Prickett (wife of John Prickett) of Mack, CO; one sister, Jessie Dumire of Sellersville, PA; and many nieces and nephews.

Two very special ladies, Shirley Evans and Gloria Swanger, from Cutting Edge Ministries, drove Billie Jeanne to and from church after she quit driving.  She lived with her daughter and son-in-law for a number of years before going to Quincy Village.

A memorial service will be held 10:30 AM, Friday, August 11, 2023 in Hollowell Brethren in Christ Church, 14807 Hollowell Church Rd, Waynesboro, PA 17268 with Pastor Brett McKoy of Cutting Edge Ministries officiating.  Burial will be private in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle, PA.  Arrangements are entrusted to the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc., Greencastle, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cutting Edge Ministries, 32 East Avenue, Hagerstown, MD 21740 or Child Evangelism Fellowship, Inc., 45 S. Broad Street, P. O. Box 6, Waynesboro, PA 17268.
