Betty Jean Stoops

Betty Jean (Small) Stoops, age 83 of Mont Alto, PA and a recent resident of the Quincy Retirement Home, died on Sunday June 22, 2014 in the nursing center.

Born September 13, 1930 in Washington Twp. Franklin County, PA, she was the daughter of the late William and Myra (Verdier) Small.
She and her husband Robert D. Stoops were married on June 10, 1950. He preceded her in death    in 1970.

Betty was a 1949 graduate of the former Washington Township High School. In her early years she was a homemaker and worked part-time at Newberry’s and the Eagle’s Club of Waynesboro as a cook. Later, Betty was employed full time by the Mowery Elementary School as a cook and manager of the cafeteria until she retired in 1998. She was last employed by Sunnyway Foods of Greencastle  in the deli department. Betty enjoyed cooking, and spending time with her family.

Surviving family are two sons, Benjamin (wife Celina) Stoops of Shady Grove, PA, Jeffrey (wife Ena) Stoops of Jacksonville, FL, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son William “Bill” Stoops in 1999.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 26 at 11:00 AM from the Otterbein United Brethren Church 146 Leitersburg St. Greencastle with Rev. David Rawley officiating. Burial will be immediately following the service in the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Quincy, PA. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in her memory to the Otterbein United Brethren Church 146 Leitersburg St. Greencastle, PA 17225.  Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.zimmermanfh.com Arrangements were handled by the Harold M.
