Betty Jane Heckman

Mrs. Betty Jane Myers Heckman, 87, formerly of Greencastle, and more recently a resident of HCR Manor Care, Chambersburg, died Saturday afternoon, April 21, 2012, at the facility. She was the wife of the late Richard McKnight Heckman who preceded her in death on November 8, 2003.

Born October 9, 1924, in Greencastle, she was a daughter of the late Harvey Ralphard and Clara Belle Cosey Myers. She graduated Greencastle High School in 1942.

Mrs. Heckman was a member of Broadfording Bible Brethren Church, Hagerstown, where she sang with the church choir. She enjoyed music and particularly embraced the old hymns of the church. As a resident of Manor Care, these hymns instilled great comfort.

She was always very supportive of her family. She often attended sporting events, namely basketball games, cheering her children; and later her grandchildren.

The family of Mrs. Heckman wishes to thank the staff of HCR Manor Care and Lutheran Home Care and Hospice for the excellent care of their mother.

Surviving are her children, Sandra L. Davis and husband Norm, Rev. Richard H. Heckman and wife Donna and Barbara A. Hawbaker and husband Jim, all of Greencastle, and Mike L. Heckman and wife Debbie of Scottsdale, Arizona; grandchildren Denise Burkett, Mickey, Bobby, Tony, Mike and Derek Heckman, and Tiffany Parkhouse; as well as eleven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The Harold M. Zimmerman & Son Funeral Home, Greencastle, is handling the arrangements. There will not be calling at the funeral home. The family will receive friends at her church, Broadfording Bible Brethren Church, 13523 Broadfording Church Road, Hagerstown, on Thursday, April 26, beginning at 10:00 AM. A memorials service will begin at the church at 11:00 AM. The Rev. William H. Freed, Jr., will officiate. Inurnment will be later and private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hagerstown Area Pregnancy Center (HAPC), 109 West Baltimore Street, Hagerstown, Maryland 21740.
