Betty Lee (Elliott) Fisher, age 91 of Moss Spring Ave. Greencastle, PA died at 3:45 AM Friday, January 22, 2016 in her home. She had been in failing health the past several months.
Born August 8, 1924 in Antrim Twp. Franklin County, PA, she was the daughter of the late Ellis and Jenny Elizabeth (Greenawalt) Elliott. She married Arthur H. Fisher on April 5, 1943 in Fayetteville, PA. He died on November 24, 1989.
Betty Lee was employed for 25 years by the Greencastle-Antrim School District as the head cook at the Greencastle Elementary School
She was an active member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greencastle where was a member of the Lutheran Church Women and had served on numerous church committees. Betty Lee was a member of the Greencastle-Antrim Lioness Club where she was awarded the 1995 Lioness of the Year, member of the Greencastle Homemakers, G-A Senior Women’s Club, the Greencastle Women’s Fellowship and the Greencastle-Antrim Loyal Daughters.
Betty Lee also was a member of the Eastern Star, Greencastle V.F.W. Post #6319 Ladies Auxiliary, volunteered with the Red Cross and was a member of the SpiriTrust Lutheran Auxiliary of Chambersburg. She loved playing cards and talking on the phone with her friends. She was a 1942 graduate of Greencastle High School.
Surviving family are one daughter Carolyn “Connie Overcash and her late husband Greg of Greencastle, one son Dennis Fisher and wife Karen of Newtown, PA, four grandchildren, Brian Overcash and wife Julie, Brooke Overcash and wife Stephanie, Matthew Fisher, Emily Fisher, seven great-grandchildren, Lani, Lance, Shaina, Lilah, Sapphire, Bria, Gemma, one half-brother, Elwood Elliott of Petersburg, VA and sister-in-law Frances Elliott of Greencastle and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Isabelle Elliott Mullenix and two brothers Owen Elliott and Robert Elliott.
Funeral services will be held on Friday January 29 at 11:00 AM at the Evangelical Lutheran Church 130 North Washington St. Greencastle with Rev. Martin Horn officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle and at the church one hour before the service on Friday. Memorial contributions may be given in her memory to the Evangelical Lutheran Church 130 North Washington St. Greencastle, PA 17225.
